“I work with any given parameter of any given situation. I take advantage of these opportunities by adding on, taking out, giving a nudge or touch, swapping, disconnecting, pairing, or comparing, in order to bring out the potential of the scenarios, materials, or the relationship between them, or their relationship with us. Being economic both on materials and methodology is one of my basic principles. I work with everyday items (sometimes works discarded by other artists), or litter in general, and apply the least possible effort and least resistance, in a rather minimal form. These ‘touches’ work as a catalyst to trigger, intervene or evoke a series of reactions, chain reactions or to change the readings of everyday life.”

“the Blind Date” / video/ Nov 2009 London Chelsea
This work is done under big project led by course director Brian Chalklet. It’s called “Triangel Project”. It’s for all students to get out of their own comfort zone and explore other types of practices. Students were randomly paired up for cross collaboration. My work is go on to a blind date with whoever i could be thrown together with.In this case it was me with Korean artist Ayoung Kim. ?We went out next day for lunch date.
The Networking Project Oct 2008 Shanghai
We are small group of national and international creatives based in Beijing and Shanghai. Our work ranges from graphic to fashion to product design, from animation to short film to photography. We are interested in expanding our network…Selling food in order to gain food as is an age old way to sustain oneself…Setting up a shop is also a way to interact with a community, create a network so to say of customers, and this is exactly our intention, making contact as a means of survival…
My work is these hand rolled cigarettes, one in each plastic bag, with sticker from normal convinient store.
The Melting Project Sep 2008 Beijing. See video 1.Video 2
“Taiwan ice-cream deserts/ Banknotes Flipbook”My piece shows time lapes movie clips of melting Taiwanese style ice cream desert which have been printed to resemble money and played on the money counter. As the money is being played through, the trvial fragile details existing at the edge of the major structure get affected first. They whither, collapse, fade and die as the first sign of fundamental change in the major structure. Global warming is not only about icebergs melting at the north-pole which is far away, nor a few degrees rise in temperature in our winter, it’s about how much we are connected together.
The Money Flip Book Project / A micro simulation of “Creating A Need” Sep 2007 Beijing. See video1 video 2
The exhibition at 798 right now is called “Cotton In Art”. I am one of the participanting artist.
I get to work with a golf clothing brand called Ashworth from the USA. The original idea was to play golf instruction flipbooks (look like US dollars) on a money counter. Why golf instructions? For people who doesn’t know golf never buy golf products, so education is the first step. I am here to help create a need which is known as a well-used marketing method. The more instructions playing through, the more possible business it generates.
In the end the instruction videos are way too long to be realistic. Instead I choose funny clips of people making mistakes when learning golf which put the learning process back into the learner’s hands, which is “the more mistakes you make the faster you learn”.
In the show there are 3 girls dressed up like my character Lightning Babe, helping to play the notes on 3 money counters on top of a small golf course setup.
Instructed Situations – “Instant Celebrity” / performance, Yoko Taketani, 3 hired body guards, 6 paparazzi photographers / May 2008
